What is back country camping?
Back country camping means you “pack it in and pack it out”.
In other words, you hike with your tent or hammock and supplies on your back, set up camp along the hiking trail to prepare your food and sleep.
There are NO toilets.
Ø The trees are your bathroom. You dig a hole and bury your waste.
There is NO electricity.
Ø The sun is your light. Bring a flashlight.
There are NO faucets with running water.
Ø You fill and filter your own water from the river and stream.
There is NO air conditioning or central heating.
Ø You are at one with nature and at the mercy of the current weather forecast.
YES, there is hiking involved.
YES, you will have to hike uphill.
YES, you will carry ALL of your own things. Mrs. Heather is not a pack mule.
NO, you are not allowed to whine about it
PACKING LIST
Remember, your permission slip must be turned in ahead of time!
KEEP IT LIGHT. Mrs. Heather is NOT a pack mule.
Pack the following:
o Backpack (typical school bag size or larger)
o Tent or hammock
o sleeping bag
o 1 change of clothes (look at weather & temperature forecast)
o extra underwear & socks
o warm pants for sleeping
o sturdy shoes or tennis shoes
o flip flops or water shoes
o hat
o bandana
o deodorant & tooth brush
o Bug spray
o Sunblock
o flashlight
o prescription meds, if applicable
**I already have many of the other items that will be needed. If you do not have one of the listed items, let me know because I may have extras**
